TWO STEPS BACKWARD, FOUR STEPS AHEAD

Yesterday, our Green Furniture Group met to further develop our concepts for an unconventional outdoor classroom and came to the realization that this direction was limiting and restricting the vast potential that we have through this creative endeavor. We split up and did individual research on various artists as well as architectural perspectives on space, the use of space, and the creation of space. We regrouped to examine each others findings and found some exciting commonalities as well as some contrasting viewpoints.
At 8:00 p.m. we had a conference call with Noel in
regards to the direction of our project. He raised some valuable questions, challenged our goals and through this discussion our group became a more solid and driven unit.

While our newly formed concept is at the preliminary stages, the Green Furniture group is excited about the new direction for our project. Our initial plan was to construct a ‘green gazebo’ out of recycled materials on the ecohouse property.
But, after much thought, debate, brainstorming and hair pulling, our group has developed a more developed concept that we feel will be more effective and more aligned with the direction of the Green Corridor Project. After discussing points from the Objectified film we decided that we want to think unconventionally about something conventional; such as a classroom.
Our desire is to build either a model or a completed outdoor classroom using recycled materials; challenging our thoughts on layout, furniture and location of conventional classrooms. We have partnered up with the Wildflower group to brainstorm ideas as to how our groups can create a space of beauty, discourse and education on the University of Windsor campus. Currently, we are in the research phase of this endeavor. On Thursday we visited the ecohouse site to visualize our idea and we are all excited about the new direction our group has taken.
